Warbird Adventures today announced that they will be hosting the PBY Catalina “Flying Turtle” (N222FT) at their new location in South Carolina. Starting on October 3, 2022, the PBY operated by Historic Air Tours will be offering rides and training. If you’d like to get your Second In Command rating (SIC) in the Catalina, here’s an awesome opportunity!
This historic flying boat type was credited with some of the most critical actions of World War II that changed history including finding the Bismarck, sinking U-Boats, discovering the Japanese attacking fleet approaching Midway, and saving countless lives of downed airmen and adrift seamen.
This PBY was constructed in 1944 as a PBV-1A by Canadian Vickers and taken on strength with the Royal Canadian Air Force (s/n 11074). The airplane remained in service with the RCAF until 1961 before it started a civilian career with Ontario Central Airlines. In its civilian life, it has been fully restored to its original glory and fitted with a luxurious interior to turn it into the most capable and comfortable global exploration vessel.
The airplane will be attending a few local events and then head on to Florida for the winter after the Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show in the middle of November. This PBY is also available for private group flights, special events, and picnics on the lake, for information visit www.historicairtours.com
