The Grumman TBF Avenger and General Motors TBM Avenger, produced by GM’s Eastern Aircraft Division, was a one of the most successful torpedo bombers of World War II. Initially developed for the United States Navy and Marine Corps, it was eventually used by several air forces and navies around the world. The Avenger entered US service in 1942, making its aerial combat debut at the Battle of Midway and remained in active military use until the 1960s.
