Our much-loved Military Air Show returns on Sunday 2nd July, showcasing outstanding and iconic military aircraft which have shaped the course of aviation history.
As well as an outstanding flying display, the day also features a vintage and veteran vehicle parade, highlighting the very best of motor vehicle ingenuity; continuing the legacy of Richard Shuttleworth, in whose name the Shuttleworth Trust was founded.
This is a fitting event to remember the founding principles of our Trust, established in 1944 by Dorothy Clotilda Shuttleworth in memory of her son Richard Ormonde Shuttleworth. Richard was tragically killed during a night training exercise for the RAF, and the Military Air Show is proud to champion all those who have given service on land, in the air or at sea.
During your visit, take one of our vintage buses to Shuttleworth House to learn more about the Shuttleworth story, or visit our landscaped gardens, including our beautiful and renowned Swiss Garden, which holds many visual and architectural surprises. Your entry also includes access to the Shuttleworth Collection, as well as our celebrated children’s area and a range of other children’s activities throughout the date. There is plenty on offer for all ages throughout the day, culminating in the spectacular air display.
Pleasure Flights
When you fly with us (T6 Harvard Ltd), we give you a whole immersive wartime experience and transport you back in time to the 1940s when this magnificent trainer was used as the advanced trainer for pilots about to convert to the Hurricane, Spitfire and Mustang (plus many more aircraft including Lancaster’s in some cases). Pilots in the 40s and 50s gained their pilot’s wings on this aircraft, and this is a testament to its nickname “The Pilot Maker.”
We offer the Battle of Britain experience, where you will fly in the “slipstream of heroes!” Flying in this Advanced Warbird trainer in the same sky the battles were fought from our hand-picked wartime airfields and locations. History is at the forefront of our motivation for us, the lucky few who fly these magnificent machines, as we share this passion for keeping the memory of those heroes who went before us.
This experience also allows you to take control of the aircraft under instruction from the instructor, a qualified flying instructor. With hands-on controls, you will see how manoeuvrable this heavy iron is. Beautifully harmonised controls with a fighter-like feel.
During the Battle of Britain experience, we take you through some of the basic aerial combat manoeuvres taught before and during the Battle of Britain; we want you to experience the g and demonstrate the pilot’s difficulties during a dog fight.
