Aviation Cultures Mk.VI Conference – Online July 15 – 17, 2022



The sixth edition of the always rewarding Aviation Cultures Conference is due to start this coming Friday, July 15th, 2022. Although hosted by the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba, Australia, attendees will be able to tune in online from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. There are numerous fascinating sessions in store, featuring expert panelists/presenters covering a diverse array of topics which are sure to appeal to any aviation-minded person. We have plenty planned for you over the weekend, with seven amazing sessions across three days.

  • Lighter Than Air: Reconsidering the place of airships and balloons in aviation
  • Hidden Figures: Finding aviation people once excluded or forgotten
  • Logbooks & AvDocs: Critical understanding & case studies of key flying documents
  • Cultural Expression: aviation in art, music, film, gaming, ephemera – and more
  • Aviation Archaeology: Insights from material remains

  • Setting Course: Navigating your way in aviation cultures, a free social event in the AvCultures departure lounge with presentations, Q&A, and discussion on how to get the most out of your aviation skills. Friday the 15th, 9:45-11:45
  • Aviation Historians at the Movies with #HATMAus Film: ‘The Riddle of the Stinson’ (1987) on Friday the 15th from 18:30-20:30
  • Trivia Night with Air Traffic’s Comedy Duo, Geoff Goodall & Phil Vabre: Random AvFacts, jokes and prizes! Saturday the 16th 18:00-19:00
  • War Thunder: Join the Aviation Cultures WWII online AvCombat game hosted by Daniel Leahy on Saturday the 16th from 18:00-19:00
  • Departure Lounge: Join the Aviation Cultures team for a cocktail or a coffee (or a coffee cocktail) and review event highlights or catch up with friends old and new. Sunday 17th 16:30-19:00
