PRESS RELEASE – On Saturday, April 18, 2015 the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing will host “Keep ‘em Flying”, a World War II-theme hangar dance and dinner, complete with big-band performances and 1940s Hollywood “stars”, surrounded by rare World War II aircraft and memorabilia. The nostalgic festivities will be at the Historical Airpower Facility, Atlanta Regional Airport-Falcon Field (KFFC), Peachtree City, 6pm-11pm. “Keep ‘em Flying” guests will hear the Peachtree Jazz Edition perform big band tunes made famous by Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman. Described as “one of the best bands in Atlanta”, the Peachtree Jazz Edition has a loyal swing-dance following and is returning to “Keep ‘em Flying” for the 12th straight year.  The Freedom Belles, a female trio that performs 40s classics by the Andrews Sisters and other stars, also will entertain guests.  “Keep ‘em Flying” is one of several highlights scheduled during WWII Heritage Days, April 18-19.  The event provides a living history experience unique to the state of Georgia, bringing together historic aircraft, vintage military vehicles, antique cars, educational displays and demonstrations. A special highlight this year is the appearance of CAF’s B-24 Liberator, one of only two bombers of its kind still flying. The B-24, based in Texas, will be on display and rides will be available. This is the type of aircraft featured in the recent hit movie, “Unbroken.”

  1. If you’re in northern Virginia or the Washington, D. C. area, the Commemorative Air Force is holding a World War II hangar dance at Leesburg Executive Airport, Virginia, on May 9 at 7:30 p.m. The hangar dance is in participation with the “Arsenal of Democracy: World War II Victory Capitol Flyover” on the 70th anniversary of V.E. Day.

Atlanta or Washington — Peachtree City or Leesburg — a hangar dance is a great way to celebrate, honor veterans, and support the Commemorative Air Force.
