RocketRoute, a leading provider of Flight Plan Filing and Management, is providing the D-Day Squadron part of the Tunison Foundation full support in preparing, organizing, managing and following the flights of all C-47 and DC-3 aircraft as they cross the North Atlantic. This will include flight plan services when the aircraft take the historic trip up the Hudson River in New York, as they fly around the Statue of Liberty on May 18th, 2019. It will continue as the aircraft fly the original “Blue Spruce” route that was used to ferry aircraft during the Second World War, with C-47s departing from Oxford, Connecticut (KOXC), stopping to refuel in Goose Bay Airport (CYYR) in Newfoundland, Canada, Narsarsuaq Airport (BGBW) in southern Greenland, Reykjavik Airport (BIRK) in Iceland and refueling a final time at Prestwick Airport (EGPK) on the Western coast of Scotland before making the final leg to Duxford Airfield (EGSU) north of London.
Once arriving in Duxford Airfield, the D-Day Squadron will join with its European counterpart, Daks over Normandy, to participate in multiple events between June 2nd-5th, 2019. The combined fleet of historic aircraft will cross the English Channel on June 5th, fly over Normandy, France and participate in multiple events at Caen-Carpiquet Airport from June 5th-9th, 2019.
“We are aviation enthusiasts. To see so many of these amazing aircraft together will be a truly spectacular experience,” expressed Steven Morgan, Business Manager for RocketRoute. “The RocketRoute team are excited to be part of making this historic event happen.”
Support from RocketRoute includes full access to the RocketRoute product suite. The flight plan program, which is cloud-based, covers everything from charts, route generation, weather, airport information, flight tracking and even runway performance, and maintenance and scheduling software. Dedicated apps for Apple and Android devices are also available to the crews.
This technology is further enhanced through an innovative flight status board, and 24/7 concierge flight tracking and management service by RocketRoute specialists, to ensure mission success.
RocketRoute will have an operations team member travel with the Squadron, to ensure full support and a more streamlined communication channel.
“This is really a big deal for us,” said Moreno Aguiari, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the D-Day Squadron. “This is the kind of support that will actually enable our aircraft to get there. Mission and flight planning are at the top of our list right now, and the support from RocketRoute and so many others is invaluable in bringing these highly significant and legendary aircraft back to Normandy.”
Be sure to keep up with the latest news as additional leaders in aviation join the D-Day Squadron mission to honor the few remaining members of the Greatest Generation that participated in the D-Day invasion and salute the monumental effort that changed the world over 70 years ago.
About the D-Day Squadron
The D-Day Squadron is the part of the Tunison Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. In June 2019, the D-Day Squadron will lead an American fleet of historic, restored C-47 World War II military aircraft in Daks Over Normandy, a flyover of more than 30 international aircraft to drop 250 paratroopers over the original 1944 drop zones in Normandy commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day. The event will honor the citizen soldiers of the War, whose bravery led the Allies to the liberation of France, and then to an end of the devastating War in Europe. The Squadron’s education program takes the compelling story of the citizen soldier to audiences at airshows and events off the flight line to honor these brave Americans and ensure their memory and significance is appreciated for generations to come. The group’s efforts are funded through the generous tax-deductible contribution of their supporters. Learn more at DDaySquadron.org.
