March 26, 1950 saw the first flight of Douglas Aircraft’s troubled A2D Skyshark, developed as part of the T40 program for the US Navy. A string of mechanical issues cast serious doubt on the Skyshark’s reliability, and failure to produce a sound engine for the aircraft led to its termination. There is likely only one extant A2D.
