March 16, 1923 saw Shunichi Kira’s landing of a Mitsubishi 1MF fighter plane on the carrier Hōshō. The event marked the first time a Japanese pilot had landed on an aircraft carrier. The Imperial Japanese Navy continued to use the 1MF (whose formal name was Navy Type 10 Carrier Fighter) until 1930.
