October 1942: Testing electric wiring at Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, California. World War II saw a huge increase in airplane production with one Douglas factory alone producing a plane every hour. Over the course of the war, Douglas built nearly 30,000 planes with its wartime work force of 160,000 employees.
