PRESS RELEASE – Oxford, Conn. – Cockpit USA, an authentic provider of military apparel and Official Supplier to the United States Air Force of the A-2 Leather Pilot Jacket, announced their support of the D-Day Squadron mission by offering a limited-release, custom A-2 Leather jacket. This jacket will be offered to flight crews that are bringing a full squadron of WW2 C-47s (known as the “Gooney Bird” or “Dakota”) to Normandy, France for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. The jacket will also be available for purchase by the general public in limited quantities with a portion of proceeds dedicated to the D-Day Squadron.

Cockpit USA works from original military designs, recreating sometimes lost finishing processes to develop jackets with the tough durability needed for high-stress environments. The company has supplied government agencies including the U.S.A.F., U.S. Navy, ARMY, NASA, and international armed forces. “We are extremely proud to support the D-Day Squadron in their mission,” stated Scott Clyman, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Cockpit USA. “We are developing a custom leather jacket that is a WW2-style A-2, made with elements of the original contract jackets, but also with aircrew-requested modern features to make it more functional for pilots and crews.”

The jacket will be emblazoned with the logo of the D-Day Squadron to highlight the organization’s mission to fly restored C-47 and DC-3 (the civilian version of the C-47) aircraft across the North Atlantic to join with its European counterpart, Daks over Normandy. These groups will create an aerial fleet over Normandy on June 5th 2019, and will participate in multiple events on June 2nd-5th at Duxford Airfield in the United Kingdom and from June 5th-9th at Caen-Carpiquet Airport in Normandy, France.

“We are very grateful to Cockpit USA for the support they are giving us,” declared Moreno Aguiari, Executive Director of the D-Day Squadron. “I am very excited that our squadron will have jackets with our emblem. This will help to recreate the esprit de corps and a sense of pride just like for those young men that liberated Europe in WWII.”

About the D-Day Squadron

The D-Day Squadron is the part of the Tunison Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. In June 2019, the D-Day Squadron will lead an American fleet of historic, restored C-47 World War II military aircraft in Daks Over Normandy, a flyover of more than 30 international aircraft to drop 250 paratroopers over the original 1944 drop zones in Normandy commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day. The event will honor the citizen soldiers of the War, whose bravery led the Allies to the liberation of France, and then to an end of the devastating War in Europe. The Squadron’s education program takes the compelling story of the citizen soldier to audiences at airshows and events off the flight line to honor these brave Americans and ensure their memory and significance is appreciated for generations to come. The group’s efforts are funded through the generous tax-deductible contribution of their supporters. Learn more at DDaySquadron.org.
