The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing is bringing two World War II aircraft to the 47th Annual Cracker Fly-In July 9, 2016 at Gainesville, Ga., sponsored by EAA chapter 611. The Dixie Wing’s PT-26 and LT-6 will be on exhibit and available for rides at the Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport (KGVL) Runway 29 from 7am to 3pm. More than 150 aircraft are expected from all over the Southeast, including warbirds, historic and homebuilt aircraft, helicopters and more. For Dixie Wing rides information, go to www.dixiewing.org Aircraft will be judged in several categories. Pancakes hit the grill at 7:30am and lunch begins at 11:00. The day includes warbird rides, DC-3 rides and Huey & Cobra helicopter rides. Displays include an AT-11 bomber, Lockheed Electra, J3 Cubs, Stearmans, Austin Healey cars and military trucks. New for the fly-in is a kids area with free jump castles, snow cones, and more. For more information, visit www.crackerflyin.com. Free parking is available on Palmour drive next to I-985. A $5 donation is requested for walk-ins. Kids 12 and under are free and fly-ins are free.
