PRESS RELEASE- October half term is almost upon us and this year the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford has planned a week of hands on craft activities that will keep the younger members of the family entertained. These family fun workshops will run from 27 to 31 October between 11.30am and 3.30pm with all materials provided by the Museum.
Monday 27th & Tuesday 28th: ‘Parachutes and Gliders’
Taking place in Hangar 1, participants will have the chance to make paper gliders and test how well they fly. You can use the designs provided or try one of your own designs and see which flies best. Then get creative and have a go making a parachute and personalise its design. This activity costs just £1.00 per person to participate.
Wednesday 29: ‘Airfix Model Making’
This activity will get families working together to build and paint an Airfix 1:72 scale First World War Sopwith Pup or Albatros model to take home. This drop in make and take session will take place nestled in the heart of the Museum’s Hangar 1 next to the giant 1:1 Airfix Spitfire model built by TV presenter James May. Participation costs just £3.00 per person and all materials will be provided by the Museum, including the kit, glue and paint. (Not suitable for children under the age of 5, children will need to be supervised by an adult and may require assistance with the model making).
Thursday 30 and Friday 31: ‘Halloween Crafts’
The Museum will be ending the week with some devilishly easy ‘Halloween Crafts’ for your little monsters. With two frightfully fiendish activities available, your little devils can enjoy a scarily good experience. Perfect for trick or treating, children can have a go at building one of our treat pots, available in a gross Frankenstein or frightening pumpkin design; they are a hideously fun way to collect your Halloween sweets and candies. Once you have completed your treat pot, why not have a go at making a scary Halloween key ring with plenty of diabolical designs to choose from. This activity costs just £1.00 per person to participate.
And if that’s not enough to get your half term week off to a flying start, you can jump onboard the Museum’s 4D Experience and enjoy all the thrills and exhilaration of powered flight. The 4D Experience combines cutting-edge 3D computer animation with the added fourth dimension of special environmental effects, including seat movements, water spray, leg ticklers and smoke effects. With two brand new rides to choose from, you can join a team of recruits for an intense air fighter training flight, your mission: to chase down an advanced flying robot. Or, why not have a go at competing in the world-famous Paris Air Show? Old war hero Mustang is called back into arms but will he be able to save the city from an ominous threat? Take a ride on the 4D to find out. A family boarding pass costs just £12 and admits 4 people, or ride the 4D Experience and the Flight Simulator for just £5.99 per person.
To participate in the events taking place this October Half Term, please purchase your ticket from the Visitor Centre on arrival. All activities will take place in Hangar 1 between 11.30am and 3.30pm each day during half term week.
