PRESS RELEASE – The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force is honored to have partnered with Lou Reda Productions for the National Geographic tribute to the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in Europe. Tonight Thursday, May 21, 2020, National Geographic is offering a full day of programming, including Heroes of the Sky: The Mighty Eighth Air Force at 9 pm ET.

This two-hour documentary introduces viewers to the courageous men of the Eighth Air Force, featuring recollections from these heroes, who entered the airplane, mission after mission, knowing that their call to duty was a likely death sentence. Integrating the airmen’s own words from personal diary entries, letters to loved ones and previous interviews, the special seamlessly draws from more than 1,000 hours of rare and never-before-seen intimate footage to tell the incredible story of the heroic figures in “The Mighty Eighth.”

The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Research Center team worked closely with program producers Lou Reda Productions to curate and share film from the museum’s collections for the project. “There are thousands of hours of film footage in our collections; each second of film is a personal moment for the men on that mission. The museum is honored to have worked with Lou Reda Productions. This film supports the mission of preserving and sharing the stories of the heroes of the Eighth,” said Scott Loehr, President and CEO of the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force.
